Editing Habit, June 30, 2013

Slept this period, but something disrupted me, so I was awake for a while.
0800-0830
Woke up tired, so I slept again another 30 minutes.
0830-1200
This period I studied Somalia, reading various news reports. I have also prepared myself. I must admit this was not planned. The main plan today was to finish publishing two books, but only one was published due to some technical difficulties. The other one simply refused to get it published.
1200-0400
This period I worked on the publication of the books. Doing all that was necessary to produce professionally published book. I did not focus well this period.
0400-0500 break
I ate and I slept.
0500-0700
This period I focused well and published one book. I was not able to do the other one.
So, I basically worked on the books for  6 hours.
0700-0000
I walked this period, bought groceries, worked on the daily journals, planned for business that I am about to open.

Editing Habit, June 29th, 2013

0800-0830
I meditated this period.
Planned the day and then discarded. Lesson, plan the day before and let your system prepare for it.
Excellent meditation convinced me to stay. 

I  prepared myself to work, eat an path stuff.
1000-1430
This period I worked on the English book,  read this book word by word. I wonder more than 4 hours with no more than 15 minutes or so.

1430-1545
This period I cooked a lunch and ate. Conversed a little bit. 
1545-1630
I traveled this period. I would have on schedule had I not met someone on the bus. I fall behind schedule 1.5 hours . 
1630-1800
This period I travelled again, because buses  did not show up. I should have used this time to write about Somalia and write daily journals. This I think Is the reason why I should log what I am doing every 30 minutes. 
1800-2200
I designed the book and created a table of content. The Internet become slow, I so was not able to continue the work. I have not been able to do the same. Not reporting on half hour basis takes away feedback mechanism that helps me correct ways when I have time and residences.

10-11:00 am Prepare myself. About 25 minutes of this time was used for engaging unplanned activities, consisting surfing the net.
8:00-10:00 am This period, I edited daily journals and wrote about Somalia.

Editing Habit June 27, 2013

0800-1000
I woke up, then wrote and edited daily journals and about Somalia. This is the last I am doing this. This is due before midnight, EST, every day, if not call me the number below, and I will give you $ 100. I will also update the logo. This time, instead will be used to meditate and get to work right away. Daily, there will schedules to follow, no schedule to be submitted before 12: am, EST, every day, have similar penalty as above. The same applies also without sufficient reason of not implementing the schedule. I will work out the details of these before midnight tonight.
1000-1030, breakfast and preparation.
1030-1100; I engaged in useless activities, benefiting from lack of schedule to follow.
1100-1130, worked on a project to relocate on another state.
1130-1200 Continued the above project. Again, I noted surfing the net without reason, other than to know what is going on.
1200-1230. As I started to edit the book, I noted a challenge: I will edit and then think that is needs more editing because I daydreamed while editing, so I start again and then edit. I face the same problem again. I know what this problem is: the problem of editing. I will start again editing a Somali book from page one to 15. I have now edited page one.
12:30-1300; I have now edited 2 and 3.
1300-1330; I took a 20 minute break. I started working again.
1330-1400, I have edited the fourth page. I slowed down.
1400-1430; I have finished the fifth page, 30 minutes per page.
1430-1500, I have edited 6 and 7, after aiming to edit for 3 pages. I am sure these pages need no further editing. My new motto work slowly but surely.
1500-1530, I edited 8, 9 and 10, very productive period. I have worked close to 3 hours 10 minutes. Add another two hours I worked on daily journals and reports of Somalia, about 5 hours or so, excluding hours I worked on administrative matters, added it amounts to 6 hours. Now is lunch time.
1530-1615 Lunch time.
1615-1700. I have edited 11, 12 and13. Another productive period.
1700-1730, I have now finished the book, 14 and 15. All that is left is to incorporate these materials into the existing draft and I am done for this book. This makes the work time 7 hours 25 minutes.
1730-1915, this period I travelled and done and did some preparations for that, to change the atmosphere. Starting from today, I have to provide this in 30 minutes segment, to notice the pattern at work.

1915-2000, I have finished the third page, using the drafted paper as a reference.
2000-2030, I have finished the 6th page.
2030-2100, I have finished 8th page.
2100-2145, I have finished the 12th page. This makes the amount of time that I have worked to day about 9 hours or more.
2145-2230 , spoke on a phone with a relative.
2230-2300,  Walking and taking a bus this time
2300-2330, walking and taking a bus this time

Editing Habit, June 27th, 2013

0800-0830 Stay on the bed and remain motionless, waked up tired.
0830-0900 Wrote about Somalia
0900-0930 Wrote my daily journals

Continue to write on my daily journals.
1000-1030
Prepared myself to start work.
1030-1100
I noted that I have developed a bad habit. Edit and then suspect that you I have not edited well and then repeat. I, therefore, decided to re-edit what I edited yesterday, start from page 15 to 32.
I have edited only one page during this period.
1100-1130
I have edited two pages. I chose to focus this time, like mother focuses as she tries to protect her child from a tiger. She has only on thought in her mind, protect the child. The same applies to me: edit the page.
1130-1200
I have edited this time word by word. I have edited two pages.
1200-1230
I have learned this period that word by word editing while not breathing is one way to edit with only editing in mind. Other wise, while you are editing, you may think of something else, and then miss editing the word.
12:301300 I am now in 23rd page out of 32 pages.
1300-1330 I am now in 22nd page. I took 15 minutes break, and then I came back.
1330-1400 I have finished page 23.
1400-1430 I have finished page 24.
1430-1500 I have finished page 25 and 26.
1500-1530, I edited again page pages 2-26. I think I daydreamed while editing, and thus missed some. It is almost difficult to stop thoughts while editing, except when you are not breathing. Not breathing means, noting is going in your head except editing.
1530-1630 break.
1630-1700; I am now editing page 29
1700-1730 I have finished page 29 and then re-edited earlier pages.
1730-1800 The last page needs extensive editing, I will do that tomorrow morning, when I am energized.
1800-1830 Took a 20 minute break.
1830-1900 Re-started the first 15 pages to edit one more last time.
1900-1930 I am now in the third page, beginning from the first page.
1930-2000, I have not edited the fifth page.
2000-2030 I am now in the 8th page.
I have worked at this time more than 10 hours. I stop.
2030-2330
I have done some important work at this time, and some nonsense activities. I shall log these 30 minutes in the future.
2330-0800 I slept. The first I felt too tired to sleep, for sometime and woke up while rested.

This period I edited daily journals and wrote about Somalia too. I also prepared myself for work.
11:53 am to 11:00 pm; This period I worked on a book that is about to published on the 30th of this month. The longest period that I worked. There were some breaks, most of this I worked.
11:00 pm to 12:00
I did nothing but prepare myself to sleep.
12:00 am-08:30 am
I was either sleep or resting on the bed.

Editing Habit, 24th of June, 2013

8:00 am-11:20 am
I prepared myself this period for work, after good night sleep. I wrote daily journals, in two languages. I also wrote about Somalia.

11:20 am-9:30pm
During this time I worked on a book on meditation in Somali. I edited the book. I took an average of two hours break and I worked 7 hours.
9:30 pm-12:00 am.
This period I watched movies on Netflix. Boring movies. It occurred to me to quit them, but I did not. I failed to follow my best judgment. I plan not to do this in the future, but to use this time to rest and do daily journals and write about Somalia.

This period I meditated to empty myself and sleep well. I noted if I meditate well before sleep, then I sleep well. I made this a habit.

I slept this period. I woke up tired. I stayed on the bed for 30 minutes. I then felt well rested. I then started editing daily journals and writing about Somalia. It occurs to me that I sleep too much, 8 hours. So that If I start exercising, running then, I may need less hours of sleep. I am not fit. Such thoughts occur to me. To ensure that they are not true, I will start running daily for 15 minutes and taking also walks, especially a bit of long distance walking.

Sleep this time. I was late for 2 hours, 30 minutes remaining from the 8 hours.

Edited the daily journals, noted some dreams and wrote about Somalia a little bit.

Prepared myself to start work.

12-1250 Sleep again, I was tired. Call this lazy sleep or resting sleep.
1250-1320 Started to plan what I should do. I should have done this the day before.

I forget my bus card and I then have to come back to home again. Sunday bus schedule is too long. So, It took 3 hours to get where I wanted to go to get print out of a book that I wanted to edit.

I rested and meditated most of this time. I noted I can do quick effective meditation when I have something that I must do.

What I anticipated was during this time was more effective use of time to get large quality work done, that does not appear to be the case. However, I will make sure this does not happen again. I have to plan ahead of time and then do what I planned.

I worked this period on the English book, incorporating what I have edited on a printed papers.

I worked again this period without much breaks. I have finished editing the English book on meditation.

2240- 0200, around 3 hours and 20 minutes; I conversed with some people, walked, and then slept at 0200.

I have edited daily journals, wrote about Somalia and then went to take care some business in the town.

I worked on the book, editing, while not breathing as I was editing. I learned a great lesson: unless there is unthinkable scenario, a work is less likely to be done. So, create reliable unthinkable scenario, lose plenty of money, for instance, or get the work done. There ought to be no third alternative. This I think is how life operates. I worked 4.5 hours without breaks.

1840-2030 Work again on the book, reading it out loud.
2030-2200 Sit somewhere.

Editing Habit June 21, 2013

Sleep.

I meditated this period. I meditated this period. I stayed on my bed. This was lazy meditation, I generally do this when I am tired and lack capacity to sit and meditate.This helps me end the tiredness throughout the day. I don't move at all. This makes the amount of time that I was on the bed for 9 hours.

0900-1117
This period I edited daily journals, in two languages, and wrote about Somalia in two languages and prepared myself to edit a book, by eating and stuff like that.

1117-1649  I edited the meditation book this period. I took two break of 15 minutes, about five hours of work of book editing, another hour on journals and news, that is about 6 hours.
1649-1847
This period I meditated again, ate, and then lost myself watching excellent songs, close to two hours.

1847-1930 I came back fresh and did a work that would have taken longer in 30 minutes. I have now edited the book the second time in whole.  This makes the amount of time that I have worked 6.5 hours and on the book about 5 hours, while I had all day long.
1930-0000
This period I walked for 3 hours, after some preparation,  printed some stuff and then took the bus back, that was about 4 hours. During this time, I edited some of the printed materials of the book, I did not focuses due lack of  pen, I did read some of it.

I have not decided which one is better to work on long period of time or to work when you are energized. One way to figure out this is to log all pertinent activities for two different days in 15 minutes period.

Editing Habit, June 19, 2013

0000-0046 At this time I meditated to empty myself from pressures that generally make me tired next day, unless I purge them.
0046-0900 I slept this period, about 8 hours and 15 minutes. I woke up well rested. I will make sure I sleep at 0000 and wake up  at 0800. I will also try to be close to the 30 minutes before 0000, so that I can meditate before I sleep.
0900-1100, At this time I was editing daily logs and daily report and analysis of Somalia.

1100-1238 At this time I was busy and writing about an urgent situation in Somalia. I did. I also fetched a copy of a book that needs editing.

1238-1355 work on the book.
1355-1415 break.
1415-1640 work on the book, editing printed a copy.  At this time, I worked on the book close to 3 hours and 30 minutes

1640-1740, I noted that I was not working optimally. So, I meditated, rested and ate at this period., close to an hour.
1740-1855. I worked again on the book. This makes the amount of time that I worked on the book 4 hours 30 minutes. By this time, I have finished editing the book in paper. I needed to incorporate to changes in the computer. The time that I worked was limited, was  a quality time.
1855-2109, this time which appears to be around 2 hours and 15 minutes, I watched a movie.
2109-2138. This period I meditated.
2138-2140 I worked on the book, covering about 5 pages. This makes the amount of time that I worked on the book close to 6 hours.
2140-2325 I edited the daily in Somali.
2325-0000 I continued to edit and then I went to bed at, 0000.

Editing Habit, 06, 18, 2013

12:00 am sleep
0840 am wake up, slept extra 40 minutes.
When I went to bed I did not sleep right away due to conversations that I had before I went to bed. So, I kept thinking about them for the next hour. It is for this reason that I chose to meditate before I sleep to empty myself and thus sleep well and wake up well rested and refreshed. This will entail being close to bed about 30 minutes before the sleep time, to meditate.

0840- 1000
This period I wrote about Somalia and published them on my blog. I do this on daily basis.
1000-1130 am
I meditated this period and prepared myself to start work.
1130-1445
I worked this period with great energy and I edited my meditation book coming out on June 30th, this year. I detailed what I did in the Somali log. Starting from today it will be detailed in here too. I worked without a break for 4 hours and 15 minutes with intense concentration. This is impressive.

1445-1648 Focused on some work other than the book.. This took almost 2 hours. I meditated during this period and rested too, but I also engaged in useless activities, surfing the net for no reason.
1718-1805
I have now finished editing the book, which consists about 22 pages. I have edited part of it yesterday, so another part was remaining. Now, what remains is print it out and then edit and then incorporate these editions into the book and then print it out again and then read it out loud and then note what needs editing and then later edit those that need editing. The book at this time is ready for publication.

1805-2230
This period I run and did some work that could have been postponed, or could have taken less time. This was about 4 hours and 30 minutes, close to the hours that I worked with intense concentration.
2200-1247 am
This period I studied the situation in Somalia and then wrote two short articles about in two languages on blog. I also cooked something and ate and meditated before I went to bed. I slept very well. I woke up at 0900 am. The schedule was to sleep 12: 00 am and wake up 0800. I will come up today with a way to deal with this situation. I will also try next time to work up to 8 hours, a day, and sleep on time and wake up on time. If more sleep Is needed, sleep early. Write the logs on time, rather than wait until the end of the day. Have a plan and then implement the plan and so on.

The Editing Habit

Woke up 0820, slept 6.20 hours. Felt somewhat tired all day long, may be, in part due to poor or unbalanced diet.

0820-0922, This period I edited daily logs.


0922-1016 am. Took a nap of 15 minutes, hoping to complete 8 hours to become more productive and then I noticed that I lack desire to sleep but just feel tired. Started to clean the house, path and breakfast. I am now ready to work. Meditate now and then do a great work. Telling the world my schedule is leverage. I can no longer do useless activities, besides I am better judge of myself when I am in front of the people. I use this leverage to get work done. I know have to come up with a method of editing, rather than edit and edit and edit and edit endlessly.

One editing thesis propounded by Mike Nappa is to edit each work on the next day before you write new work. After you complete your work, edit all in the computer and make changes.

Third, print out a copy and then edit the whole thing word by word to the end. Take notes on what needs to be done when editing, but don't immediately incorporate changes. You will use these notes to edit the work.

Fourth, print out another copy and then read it out loud. Where your mind stumbles upon, or confuses about cut them or rewrite them. Take these notes, but don't stop to edit right away. Use the notes to edit your work and now you are done.

I was combining two process that Nappa suggests to be separated: noting what needs to be edited and editing it right away.

This period I wrote the article above, but it appears I lost the track of time. Now, I shall start the computer editing of the entire book, following by print out and then out loud editing.

I am now In the middle of the first page.

13301330 I am now in the middle of the third page. I am now writing for myself and not for others. The danger is when I try or edit for others to secure money. My work becomes poor and fails to attain its lower end.

I am now in the 6th page. I noted I was not reading word by word, rather I was moving very fast. Time to stop eat something and then com back. This completes close to six hours that I was active working, took about 30 minutes break, so about 5 hours of work. 
I made a major mistake: I did not meditate 45 minutes. Energy, therefore, had not been generated to get work done. 

1500 I will be back by this time.
I made a mistake. I tried to measure my work on the basis of how many hours I clocked in, rather than the quality of the time that I clocked. in. I missed my 45 minutes of meditation early in the morning when I wake up for the purpose of working more hours. This has lowered the quality of the work that I was doing. Moreover, I feel tiredness, that I will handle now. I will meditate 45 minutes now.

I meditated for about 25 minutes, and then I wanted to rest more so than continue to meditate. I rested. Now, I am fully rested and ready to work. I will see how long I can work. This approach was incorrect. I ought to choose time and then work towards it, to push myself and develop stamina to work for the purpose of producing more quality works.

1640, I did a great job. In 40 minutes I edited a page. I added something into it and removed some. I feel I did a quality work. I am not tired anymore. I think people will think you are lazy if you spend more time resting and removing tiredness, but I think they are not right. After you rest well, you can do an excellent work. They are also right in another sense, rest during the night well, and then there will be no need to rest during the day that much. Failing to rest during the night causes a desire to rest during the day. Meditation will help you remove all that may try to stop you from getting good night sleep, regardless their identity.

1720- There was a dramatic shift of energy, after I meditated and ate. Now, I am able to focus and get quality work done and I did. I will also continue to do so for another 40 minutes.
1839 I have done work too. This was thee good hours.
1839-1939 I was on a break. Watched a movie and walked around. I am now back to work.
2020  I am working yet and it is going very well.

2100 report this time.  Did work and covered half of the book, today 13 pages. I have now worked 5 more hours in addition to the five hours in the morning, that is about 10 hours.

I cooked something and then made some phone calls and so on, but I was lost basically. I browsed sites for no reason and I failed to do what I have planned. I slept on time though, but I could not sleep due to some thoughts arising from the browsing, eventually I did sleep. In the future, I shall meditate to empty myself and get good quality sleep. This ends this day.
