Factors of Success

Four factors ought to be present to achieve a goal. Some people are very good at coming up with this, final goals or vision. Their personality is generally that of idealism, according to Keirsey Temperament Sorter, KST II Sorter.

1-      First, you have to have a major goal or overall aim or vision. This is your dream, sort of things you wish to attain before you leave this planet. Put it differently, these are sort of things when you remember you feel unhappy and you wish if you could have done them. This or many of these constitute your final goal, your unfulfilled wishes. This is  like writing mission statement. Visionaries or teleologists or NFs are better suited to come up with these kinds of final ends.

2-      You ought to also have a strategy, overall plan of action to achieve the final end. The way to get an overall plan is to move backward from the final end by answering this question: suppose I have achieved this goal, how have I did so? You continue to ask questions like this and then answer them until you reach where you are right now relative to your  final goal. At this point, you have analyzed the final goal, that is you have broken down the path to the final goal into its  components. That is what analysis means in Greek, to break up a whole into parts. Strategists or generalists, or NTs, are better suited to come up with these kinds of overall plan.

3-      Now, we ask what can I do now to get close to achieving the final goal. Since the path consists of parts leading to the final goal, we choose one part or station to reach, in our way to the final goal. We now have a definite short term goal linked to our final goal. SP or Tacticians are better suited in achieving these kinds of short term goals.

4-      We fix a deadline and provide provisions needed to achieve the end. Moreover, we also fix rewards and punishment relative to the attainment of the goal on time. We write these and sign them. SJ or logisticians are better suited to this task.
